A minifig Christmas

If you remember some of the old Lego holiday catalogs, you may recall a few having covers that depict minifigs from different themes coming together to celebrate the holidays. I built this concept in a scene that features a gingerbread house and a Christmas tree. How many different themes are represented?

Girlpocalypse Now

I’m back from BrickCon, and ready to unveil the only new creation I’ve built since July. I had the funky idea to build this one evening, and actually had the time to do so. I figured that the post-apocalypse building scene could use a little more levity, and what’s better than cheerleaders to bring some Continue reading →

From the unknown chasms of space

…comes my latest creation, a ship called Broken Regret. I strove for an ominous and organic looking craft by incorporating curves and spikes (best viewed on black). The result is something that looks much better in real life than on photos. This is due to the curves of the ship distorting our perception of its Continue reading →

3LUG Presents: Total Eclipse of the Xenogenetic Heart

My buddy Nick Kappatos and I once again teamed up to build for BrickFair. We can’t seem to tear ourselves away from crashed alien space ships as a subject, though I think we managed to change things up enough. This year, we’re bringing the viewer to a bizarre sector of the sea. A shaman stands Continue reading →

M3 Half-track APC, M4 Sherman tank, & Dodge WC54 ambulance

I’ve shared in the past my ambivalence toward violent LEGO, but there’s something unique about World War II that has fascinated me ever since I was little. My grandfather and great uncle served in the US Army during the war, and I grew up in one of the countries that both inflicted a great deal Continue reading →

Two worlds, one threshold

For the past two months Tyler (Legohaulic) and I have been working on a collaboration project for Brickworld. We wanted to present our distinguishable styles in a cohesive sci-fi diorama. At the same time, we strove for the unprecedented by incorporating lights, motion, and even music (through built-in iPod speakers) on top of a dark Continue reading →

Another Dark Bley Creation

This one is mine, though. It’s an addition to the Iron Mountain Legion theme that I’ve been tinkering with on and off lately. I wanted to keep with the overall style of that theme, which meant large bulky armor pieces. It also requires somewhat comic proportions, hence the tall turret. I wanted this creation to Continue reading →

G-04 Caelifera Star Fighter

This ship is something I whipped together by request in a couple of evenings. I wanted to use lime, as I’m growing fond of that color, and this seemed like a good opportunity. I expect that the insect influence is rather apparent. When my wife saw it, she remarked that it looked like a grasshopper, Continue reading →

Graduation gifts

Over the past several weeks I’ve been building gifts to thank various people of my university for the role they’ve played in my undergraduate education at Washington University in St. Louis. The past four years have been an intellectually stimulating journey in my study of arts and sciences and the biology major. At the same Continue reading →

ChromeBricks releases new metallic colors [News]

ChromeBricks, the supplier of quality chromed Lego elements, recently released new colors including metallic silver, metallic gold, and antique brass. To show the quality of the new metallic colors, I built a vignette integrating metallic silver parts from both LEGO and ChromeBricks. I bet you can’t tell which parts are official and which ones are Continue reading →

Firefox Star Racer

Apparently I’m having a rough time kick-starting myself back into blogging. The first thing I posted today had been posted by one of the other Brothers Brick. Therefore, I’m posting something of my own, that I managed to finally photograph recently. None of the others can possibly have beaten me to this one. I started Continue reading →

The Sabota Death Ring

My latest creation is a good example of what happens when a builder gets carried away with a simple concept. My simple concept was to use blue bubble domes as microcolonies, which grew into a large mass that I am calling The Death Ring (see story on Flickr). The large dome is constructed from stretcher Continue reading →

Until We Ride the Cosmic Spiral

What you see here started as a tablescrap of a spiral featuring a technique I learned from The Rack by Bryce McGlone. I wanted to incorporate it in a sci-fi scene based off the concept of the cosmic spiral from my previous creations. Having built the rectangular light gray generator of the spiral, I had Continue reading →

Conquering Atlantis

In this two-for-one post (and an excuse to blog my own creation), I highlight two new ways of having your way in the underwater world of LEGO Atlantis. First, my Harpoon Hunter is a combat mecha to fend off the guardians of Atlantis. The model was a result of my desire to test an incredibly Continue reading →

Contus Lancer Corvette

As I said in my last post, I’m using today’s snow day to build and search for creations to blog. I didn’t find too much stuff to blog that hadn’t already been covered by my Brothers-Brick cohorts, but I’m hopeful that the snow on the East coast of the US will force a building boom. Continue reading →
