Theme Bending Contest

Tired of castle builders having all the fun in their Time Twister’s Contest? Now you can take any Lego set and remake it in another theme. Here, the host Tom Williamson bends the Shanghai Chase into the space theme using only pieces from the set. You have until March 31st to submit an entry. The [...]

The best ASS model contest

With a title so catchy, I just had to share it on the blog. FBTB’s newest contest asks you to build an Alternate Separatist Shuttle model, oh what else were you thinking? The winner will receive a cool 8088 ARC-170 Starfighter. Head over to FBTB to view the details. The deadline is March 31st.

What the Death Star looks like as a floating rock

Barney Main (SlyOwl) knows our soft spot when he built his entry for the Time Twisters Contest. The association with 10188 Death Star is so obvious and hilarious that you don’t even need to know the rules of the contest to predict this as a likely winner.

Twisted? Most certainly.

There are some fantastic entries coming in, for Classic-Castle’s Time Twisters contest. For a brief re-cap, the idea is take an existing set, and turn your wayback machine a few centuries…or in this case, switch your “fantasy worlds” entirely!
Rod Gillies weighs in with his Twisted AT-AT:

The Time Twisters Contest [News]

Two members of Classic Castle, Aliencat and Bluesecrets, are putting on something called “The Time Twisters Contest“. I know you are wondering if this has something to do with that bizarre theme from the ’90s. The answer is ‘No’.
They want you to “medievalize” an official Lego set….any official Lego set. Here is [...]

Paul Lee & son win national LEGO Minibuild contest [News]

Paul Lee and his son entered their local LEGO Store’s monthly Minibuild contest back in September, and recently learned that their entry has just won the national contest, and will be featured as this coming September’s monthly model.

It’s a great little Miniland character that would look perfect on the tiny streets of LEGOLAND California, complete [...]

Skull Beneath the Skin–a JRC Entry

Derfel Cadarn has cast his lot for the Jolly Roger Contest at

Announcing “Big in Japan” – collaborative display for TBB readers at BrickCon 2010

A LEGO zombie apocalypse is so last year (and the year before that). We’re pleased to announce that the collaborative display that The Brothers Brick will be coordinating this fall at BrickCon in Seattle will be inspired by the rich history and culture of Japan.

Like these wonderful characters from Hayao Miyazaki’s My Neighbor Totoro by [...]

The Jolly Roger Contest is well under way

Forbidden Cove’s first major contest, the Jolly Roger, set sail on the 1st of the month and there are some very good pirate creations cruising in. Here is a few of my favorites so far.

Dutch Soldier Outpost by Nieks

Under the Waves by Elephant_Captain

Pirate’s Island by SlyOwl

St. Cadoc’s Church

Luke Watkins posted this fantastic church from the Medieval Life category from Classic-Castle’s CCCVII:

The details all around are just incredible. I love the stone look to the building itself. The shields around the base are simply fantastic and add a great sense of completion to the creation.

There’s more to Newton than the apple.

Kubik-Rubik recently posted this vignette of Isaac Newton for the CCCVII for Classic-Castle. It depicts Newton using a prism to break light down into the spectrum of seven colors.

…and ’tis Thor who shall see to the task!

Classic-Castle member and customizer babyjawa posted a fantastic creation for the Custom Castle Figure portion of CCCVII: Thor!

BJ has a great eye for his custom figures, and Thor is no exception.

Feast of Fools!

If you’re still working on your last-minute entries into Classic-Castle’s CCCVII, you should know you’ve got 3 hours until the deadline (11:59pm EST).
With that said, there have been some excellent entries this year–I don’t envy the judges, since they’ve got the hard job.
Flickr user 2 Much Caffeine has submitted another fantastic creation: Feast of [...]

Mark Stafford builds the past and the future

Mark Stafford (Nabii) built two new creations from distinct time periods. The first hails from the future in a scene depicting a firefight in a busting metropolitan skyscape of the future, built for Keith’s You Control the Action Contest. The highlights of the scene are the action effects showing the laser blasts, smoke trails, and [...]

Simply an Illusion

Flickr user and Classic-Castle member 2 Much Caffeine has posted another entry for the CCCVII–Castle of Illusion.

The set includes a photo detailing how he achieved the optical illusion without using a photo editing program. I am impressed with the amount of thought that went in not only to building this, but photographing and presenting it!

Princess Emmy’s Tranquil Lakeside Escape

busboy489 has produced another fantastic entry for Classic-Castle’s annual contest. I particularly like the gentle curve of the walk-way between the two towers over the water. It’s quite elegant.

Mini Castle Contest declares its winners!

Dan Joosten’s contest on Classic-Castle has run its course and he’s declared winners in all categories:
Miniature Set: Bartosza6m with his version of 6081 – King’s Mountain Fortress:

Miniature Castle: Chris Edwards with his Castle on the Lake:

Check out the second place, third place, and runner-up entries here! Congratulations, everyone!

Here’s your third chance to control the action

Keith Goldman presents his third You Control the Action Contest with a unique twist. The theme of the contest is “a celebration of minorities in sci-fi,” which prompts you to think beyond the ordinary yellow minifig and come up with new situations involving the misrepresented, misfits, mavericks, Mace Windu, and in simple terms – the [...]

Win 6299 LEGO Pirates Advent Calendar in the FC Seed Part Challenge [Contest]

Sorry folks, we won’t be getting 6299 LEGO Pirates Advent Calendar here in North America. That decision was apparently made before the whole Castle Advent Calendar drama last year.
Fortunately, the Forbidden Cove October Seed Part Challenge gives you a way to win one — for free!

Zombie Apocafest 2009: After-Action Review

Zombie Apocafest 2009 has come and gone. The undead have been blown up, shot up, and mulched to oblivion. The humans stand victorious among the ruins of their civilization. Fortunately, that civilization was, by good fortune, built from LEGO, and it can be rebuilt, brick by little plastic brick.

The new sets just keep getting smaller and smaller…

In addition to the fantastic new creations coming out of Dan’s Mini Castle Contest V, we get to see immense creativity in micro-scale recreations of our favorite classic castle sets.
Griffon brings an excellent rendition of 6080 LEGOLand Castle, originally released in 1984:

It even opens up, just like the original! Check out the rest of [...]

I’m sure I was told not to judge something by its cover.

The same applies to this creation, from Jonathon Derksen. An entry for the 23rd Challenge over at LUGNuts, the red truck is quite unassuming:

But have a look inside and see why you want this truck on YOUR side during the Zombie Apocalypse.
