I like all the simple clever techniques and the sheer range of elements used by Michael Jasper to make this little scene of Miraculix Panoramix brewing a potion. Lots of “What is that?” and “How did he do that?” to keep the eye entertained.

Girl identifies Star Wars minifigs with her mouth

A girl appeared on a German TV show to identify Star Wars minifigs, not through any conventional way of referencing Peeron or Bricklink but by using her mouth! I’d say that’s a pretty useful skill to have, don’t you think?

New minifigure magnet packs also released [Mini-Review]

While Andrew got the 7684 Pig Farm & Tractor, I bought the new magnets to see if LEGO has improved their minifigure quality in these products, and the answer is: yes, they did!

The minifigs from the new magnet packs (shown below) are indistinguishable from the minifigs you’d find in regular sets.

Whereas before, figures from magnet packs were of notably decreased quality plastic and had loose joints and even printing discrepancies in color. It’s safe to say that LEGO has fixed these problems, but $14.99 for a pack of three figures is still on the price-heavy side.

It looks like someone got their hands on the next volume of the minifigure collection series. What I see is an awesome lineup of some of the most coveted lady minifigs in Lego history including: the forest woman, white ninja, and the doctor with the pigtail hair.

The first pictures of LEGO Collectible Minifigures Series 2 have shown up from the Nuremburg Toy Fair. Although there’s not yet an official listing of all the figures in this series, they look just as interesting as those of the upcoming Series 1 in June of this year.

You don’t have to travel to Ryloth to get your hands on a lovely Twi’lek dancer, jedi, personal assistant, or sith minifig. Arealight Custom Work now sells printed versions of the custom accessories we reviewed last year, as well as new curved torsos.

LEGO 8683 Collectable minifigures coming June 2010 [News]

Brickset has high resolution images of the 16 upcoming collectible minifigs in June 2010. All of these figures feature unique printed parts and accessories that are already making fans go nuts. Currently there’s word that each pack contains one random figure for $2, which makes each purchase a surprise (or a disaster on your wallet if you’re on a scavenger hunt for your favorites).

Judging by the “series 1″ label in the image below, we can expect more to come in the future.

While I enjoyed the discussion about Avatar on the post featuring Harvey Cu’s Bionicle Thanator beast, I can’t say that it really convinced me to go see the movie. Nevertheless, we plunked down $15.50 each yesterday to go see the move in IMAX 3D, and I’ll grudgingly admit that it was well worth it — not for the story, which had the audience laughing in several places, but for the sheer spectacle.

Naturally, a major blockbuster movie like this wouldn’t be complete without the LEGO fan community cranking out creations inspired by the film. Here’s our round-up.

Imagine Rigney (imagine’s brickzone) gets us started with a great vertically oriented diorama complete with a Na’vi flying an Ikran, AMP suit on the ground, and Aerospatiale SA-2 Samson hovering in the air:

Harrison (corran101) uses the new Woody legs from the Toy Story sets for the 12-foot-tall Na’vi in the background of his vignette:

JasBrick (Flickr) takes a rather different approach with this pair of highly customized figs. The Na’vi minifig is actually an old Jack Stone figure!

Finally, Colonel Quaritch stomps around in his AMP suit in this vignette by MasterChief 1:

For more LEGO Avatar, there’s already a Flickr group, of course. (As much as I enjoyed the movie and like the LEGO creations I’ve featured here, here’s hoping Avatar isn’t the next Halo…)

The LEGOLAND Windsor website released the following image in a survey recently, depicting what is apparently a collection of minifigs that may be released next summer, starting around June 2010.

The collection appears to include the following 16 figures:
