I cantilever, but I keep coming back for more…

I’m astounded that this mecha by FateHeart manages to even stand up. The tank, or whatever it is, sticks even farther off the back than the jetpacks do, and looks cool at the same time. The dainty wheeled feet add to the off balance look, and the whole thing just works.

Deathfish!

No, it’s not a new metal band, it’s the name of this clever use of LEGO by Rod Gillies (2 Much Caffeine). I assumed that it was a skeleton, but it’s apparently biomechanical. Regardless of whether it’s intended to be alieve or dead, or something in-between, I really enjoy the creation. Rod has made great Continue reading →

New hardsuit frame design by Ironsniper

Even though I’m a sucker for adorably squat hardsuits, there are only so many gray, greebly little fellows I can take after a while. This new design by Chris (Ironsniper) made me sit up and take notice. There’s some nice color blocking with the brown arm, along with one of the coolest details I’ve seen Continue reading →

CEC Gauss Aufseher

Dane Erland (Lord Dane) gives a very big gun to a tall mecha with tiny arms in a surprisingly effective combination that I wouldn’t want to face down on a dead-end street.

Nice Legs

Théo (Titolian) has built a fantastic little robot. The fishing poles for legs add a great alien bug feel to this creation. He’s also named it in Morse code, which I’ve long forgotten.

Lego Starcraft 2 Marine

By now it’s clear that the Terran units from Starcraft 2 are easiest to make out of LEGO. Sven Junga adds the marine to list of the community’s brick-built Terran units including the Battlecruiser, Thor, Viking, Banshee, Medivac, Siege Tank and more. It’s a good thing I can counter marines with my banelings!

XOXO

Sometimes a build doesn’t need to be complex to be awesome. It just has to be really well designed. Cade Roster (Apocalust) has achieved this state with his tributes to LEGO Exo-Force.

Lego ATLAS and P-Body from Portal 2

Portal 2 is here! And along with that comes the first brick-built versions by Tyler (Legohaulic) of the adorable protagonists from this video game. Here’s ATLAS and P-Body: As a bonus, check out the multi-colored turrets by Ryan (L D M) inspired by this trailer.

55cm LEGO Ironman

I know nought about Iron Man but Alex Schranz (“Orion Pax”) was obviously a fan of the comic and has dedicated 55cm worth of ABS to recreating this armoured superhero. His dedication to recreating the ‘muscles’ on the figure really lend it a drawn air. And as an added bonus the light in the chest Continue reading →

Metal Storm mecha by Cole Blaq

We’re used to small to mid-sized mecha from Cole Blaq, but his latest is a rather massive stomper inspired by the old NES game Metal Storm. The minifig in the cockpit gives some sense of the mecha’s scale: Via Young Spacers.

Quadrilateral character

Making mecha with oodles of character is definitely one of RongYiren’s strong points. His Couple of Squares are no exception but take a slightly more convential robot shape to his typical work. The posing, little details and excellent colour use really make these polygons shine.

Flora-Borg S510 modernizes your food

I’m not entirely sure what to make of this mech by Wyrk Wyze, but it certainly caught my attention. The lime-green detailing on the mouth (?) pops wonderfully, while the little white flowers add interest to the vines encircling the limbs and torso.

Izzo brings the heavy firepower

While some of us have been taking a LEGO hiatus, one of our favorite Japanese builders has returned from his own. After a break of more than a year and a half, Izo Yoshimura (Izzo’s LegoStyle) began posting new mecha last October. Izzo’s latest was inspired by some Hollywood concept art: It’s great to have Continue reading →

Sucker Punch bunny mech in LEGO by Fredoichi

Although Sucker Punch may be getting reamed by critics, it’s still a visually breathtaking film that is inevitably inspiring LEGO models. Fredo Houben is the first I’ve seen to take on the iconic bunny mech, complete with custom stickers.

Mecha melody

This mecha by Brickshelf user icetea not only looks like a total boss but also transforms into an all-terrain assault vehicle. See the gallery for numerous pictures showing different poses and weapon assortments.
