I Feel This Racing Stripe Is Quite Nice

The builder known as M_O_N_K_E_Y on flickr has been busy posting some fantastic creations. I was especially drawn to this orange mecha. I consider orange to be a bit of a difficult color to work with, in part because of a smaller part variety in the color, and it is well managed in this creation. Continue reading →

A whale of a time with Mladen

It’s been way too long since Mladen Pejic posted a new mecha but he tells me he hopes it’ll be less time until his next one. In the meantime we have his latest Mobile Platform “Orca” to ogle, and, given many readers may not be aware of Mladen’s stuff his mecha back catalogue and all Continue reading →

Suitable

For a blog that gets accused of being mech-centric, we haven’t had a mech or hardsuit on here for over a week. This one will do. I really like how Knobby Plastic used Jango Fett’s cowl for the head on this hardsuit. It gives it quite a distinctive look.

LEGO Tank from Ghost in the Shell

Those who’ve been around the LEGO community for a while may know I’ve been planning a LEGO version of the Ghost in the Shell tank (from the movie) for quite some time. In fact I posted my first CAD version 5 years ago after starting it nine months before that. I won’t say it’s finished Continue reading →

Cephalofoil

The Ma.K starfighter contest continues to draw out excellent entries. Ted Andes dives in with his “Hammerhead” fighter, which features a cool custom sticker and can indeed fit a fig in its cockpit. I also really like his “true” Ma.K hardsuit, which uses wrenches/clips as an ammo chain:

Blade Roller

This police tank posted recently by Lord Dane on flickr packs all the right angles. It features an unusual arrangement of wheels, some clever details (that gun is so simple, but so nice) and a shape that’s sleek and chunky at the same time. I don’t know if I’d get the same Blade Runner vibe Continue reading →

Go back to Earth, humans

Abraham Calderon’s (aabbee 150) alien hard suit has a solid design with tasty dark turquoise and orange color accents. Bonus features include an alien pilot and working lights.

Back in Black

Mecha expert Ryuhei Kawai (Kwi-Chang) brings us yet another interesting piece. There are cool red hoses over the top, pistons on the back, and some crazy-long forearms. I can’t help but get a District 9 vibe from it, too.

Yo ho ho

Adding a pirate flag to a big stompy mech just makes it that much more awesome, as Kyle Vrieze (bermudafreze) proves with this gun platform. The white on the legs, red missile tubes, and judicious use of stickers/decals all add little splashes of color.

More LEGO Ma.K.

I tend to avoid blogging competition entries of things I’m judging to keep my favourites secret until the contest ends (Oct. 1 in this case). Luckily Tim Zarki (spook) claims he’s unable to make a starfighter so has built a non-contest mecha. I

Mobile Suit Gundam Wing

Mike Szita (OrangeKnight Studios) has been building a series of microscale mecha from the Gundam universe over the last while, and he’s just posted a group shot of the squadron that shows off their variety.

Reinforcements arrive in style

Raoul Baldwin (Raoulosos) built a giant troop transport craft to carry infantry units and vehicles into the heat of combat. The mix of greens and black creates a camouflaged pattern while the tan interior adds a beautiful contrast.

MaK SAFS Space Type Pit-Viper by Tromas

TR Brownridge (.Tromas) has posted another inspiration model for the MaK Starfighter Contest. It’s great to see a classic MaK hardsuit, and this one has some lovely details — not least of which the sticker/decal use. Notice in particular the thin warning stripe below the floodlight on the front.

One grand Teuton

This mecha is quite impressive. I am not usually in favor of rebuilds but this one by Lord Dane is the bee’s knees. This one has quite the intimidating aura going on.

It brings flowers

I was in the mood to build a mecha, and I wanted to add a slightly disturbing twist to it. More description is on Flickr if you’re curious to find out what it’s doing.
