Cole Blaq has busted out his custom Friends figure to use in this amazing rendition of the Alakuneda Think Tank from Ghost in the Shell. He’s used grey rather than the more accurate tan to make better use of curved parts but I think it’s a fair compromise to make for something that looks this good.

What can I say to add to the experience of viewing this amazingly bizarre creation by halfbeak? It does make interesting use of some parts (like car doors on the arms), but that’s certainly not what caught my eye. This is an engaging character, and that’s why I like it.

Most of the mecha we feature here on The Brothers Brick are standalone LEGO models all on their own. knobbyplastic goes farther to incorporate his menacing mecha into a diorama.

The crack going through the wall and windows on the gray building is a nice detail, as is the broken railing. The mecha doesn’t even take the central place in the photo, standing off to the side as if waiting to pounce. It’s an excellent composition, with a great balance between light and dark that draws the eye to the mecha even though the mecha isn’t in the middle of the picture.

I’m trying to get back to blogging after a busy holiday season, and this new mecha by Chris (ironsniper) caught my eye. The proportions between the massive legs and the tiny turret seem comical at first, and yet they still somehow seem to work.

It’s been a very long while since Brian Kescenovitz (mondayn00dle) has brought us one of his dieselpunk mecha but it’s definitely been worth the wait. His “Badger” Combat Walker features some very, very nice part use and lots of delightful plausible details like pistons and armour plating.

Or possibly just war machines in camouflage. The hardsuit in this crack team of desert warriors is a true beauty. And much more to scale with minifigs than most I’ve seen. Thanks Chris (Ironsniper) for this compact delight.

Seravee heavy mecha

Until today I was unfamiliar with the LEGO mecha made by G P (gdido2k10), but I hope to remedy this soon by checking out his back catalogue. His GN-008 Seravee Gundam is a highly impressive creation and great rendition of the original.

This lovely display by Justin Pyne seems to be attempting to illustrate the concept of exploration, rather than just an exploration mecha. The choice of perspective, putting the fascinating alien (underwater perhaps?) flowers in the foreground, with the character in the background really adds depth to the photo. Speaking of those flowers, they’re quite interesting as well, the use of large scale technic pieces is surprisingly effective.

I’m glad that Mike Yoder (builder42) covered and added to maxvf1‘s amazing Valkyrie/Veritech fighter as it gives me an excuse to blog both. maxvf1′s is available on LEGO Cuusoo and was mentioned by Nannan a while back. ~~Unfortunately maxvf1 has restricted use of his pics so we’ll have to provide a link to the Gerwalk and Battloid modes.~~

I don’t know what the Get Robo company does, but I know I like this sculpture if their mascot by Ewok in Disguise. The robot is cute, and incorporates some intersting building techniques in the torso. Frankly, I think it’s better looking than the source image he based it on.

Best Ma.K. Starfighters announced

The winners of the Maschinen Krieger (Ma.K.) Starfighter contest have just been announced. In the words of its creator TR Brownbridge (.Tromas),

One last thing…I think I can speak for Tim & Peter when I say this…this was without a doubt the best line up of contest entries that we have ever seen. You have no idea how hard it was for me (us) to narrow it down to a final 10 let alone final 3. Everyone of you should be super proud of your entries!!

First place went to Robiwan Kenobi’s Neuntöter which has already been blogged here

In second place was the Space Falke by Gregory Haga (The Lantern Rouge)

Third place went to Mountain King with his Dragonfly

The quality of the entries was absolutely superb. I have to admit I wasn’t expecting many people at all to capture the Ma.K. vibe (as I see it) and was utterly blown away but how many people did, and how well they did it. We really had a a hard time even narrowing down the final entries and picking a winner was a real challenge. Make sure you go to the entry thread to understand why we had such a hard time.

One thing we all agreed on is that John Judy’s (neim343) entry was both amazing and ineligible. While the paint took it up a notch it did breach the rules that no model should be painted, merely parts. But we all felt it needed honourable mention as it wouldn’t look out of place on the winners podium of a ‘real’ Ma.K. contest without being restricted to LEGO.

Finally the “Heart Tile” award for best use of an existing printed LEGO brick had to go to Tyler Clites’ (legohaulic) Höllenhound. The zebra tile was odd yet looked great and was thus a natural winner.
