Announcing Creations for Charity!

I’m excited to announce a new online charity event that has just started! The event, called Creations for Charity, sells custom LEGO creations from fan builders to raise money to buy LEGO for underprivileged children. All funds will be used to buy LEGO sets for the charity Toys for Tots. From now until early-December, there [...]

Three-score barrels of powder below /   To prove old England’s overthrow

Even though today is Guy Fawkes Day, I do not recommend burning this CubeDude effigy built by Paul Lee (polywen):

LEGO does, after all, give off a rather acrid smell when burnt…

Creepy minifigs invade Halloween… again

Jamie Spencer (Morgan19) once again posted some very creative and creepy minifigs throughout the past several weeks. Most of them use custom non-LEGO accessories but some are made from all LEGO parts. Here are a few of my favorites:

Enter at your own risk

This haunted house by Mos Eisley is one creepy place you don’t want to venture in at night. I don’t want to think about what lurks behind those boarded up windows.

Getting in the spirit of Halloween

With Halloween approaching, Douglas Hill creates a chilling mosaic that uses so many shades of colors that I lost my head trying to keep track of them all. Can you identify all the brick colors that were used? I’ll bet it ain’t easy.

Thanks for the tip Chip Philson! ;)

10199 Winter Toy Shop now available from the LEGO Shop [News]

With much relief, I’m pleased to announce that 10199 Winter Toy Shop is now available from the LEGO Shop online.

For $60, you get 7 minifigs and 815 pieces. The set also has some great microscale detailing inside the shop.
No luck yet on 6299 LEGO Pirates Advent Calendar, but rest assured we’ll be talking to the [...]

Dear LEGO: We want 6299 LEGO Pirates Advent Calendar!

It’s that time of the year again, LEGO fans. In what I hope does not become an annual tradition, we’ve received confirmation from LEGO that this year’s non-City advent calendar, 6299 LEGO Pirates Advent Calendar, will not be made available in the United States.

The success of our campaign to get 7979 Castle Advent Calendar [...]

More pictures of the upcoming 10199 Winter Toy Shop are now available, once again from Eurobricks. Click on the images below to see more pictures.

I like the new expressions on the carol singers, and I look forward to what creative uses people will have for them.

10199 LEGO Creator Christmas set revealed on Amazon Japan [News]

Amazon.co.jp has revealed details about the upcoming 10199 LEGO Creator Christmas set, due out later this year. The picture isn’t perfect, but good enough for discussion, I think.

Due to ship in Japan on October 25, 2009, the set will apparently retail for 12,600 yen. Comparing the prices of other LEGO sets between yen and USD, [...]

Happy Valentine’s Day!

Happy Valentine’s Day everyone! A few builders from MOCpages have created some nifty little charms for the occasion.
From Heather LEGOgirl:

From Andrew Colunga:

From Alex Eylar:

and from Ciamoslaw Ciamek:

Thanks for keeping the fire burning, you guys rock!

Mark wishes us all a happy Valentine’s Day

While I may not be keen on Valentine’s Day as a holiday, I can’t fault Mark Neuman for the way he expresses his Valentine’s wishes. He’s built an adorable mecha/animal robot to offer up a cupcake. I love the expressiveness of the face he’s achieved, and the feet are just adorable. Since [...]

Santorclaus is coming to town

Christmas cheer from Rocko. Need I say more?

The LUGNuts holiday spirit

LUGNuts founders Lino Martins and Nathan Proudlove recently posted a pair of holiday-themed vehicles sure to stoke your Christmas spirit.
With “Santa’s Slay,” Nathan shows us what Santa (and the late Rudolph) would do after Santa retires from the old Christmas game:

Meanwhile, a very sexy Ms. Claus joins Santa aboard his 1930s era bike, as built [...]

New Jersey kids build giant Hanukkah menorah from LEGO

New Jersey newspaper Asbury Park Press reports that members of the Chabad Jewish Center in Toms River, NJ built an enormous LEGO menorah for the beginning of Hanukkah this past Sunday:

Rabbi Moshe Gourarie said, “A lot of darkness can be dispelled by a little light. What this world really needs, more than anything, is light, [...]

A very trolly Christmas to you all!

Even trolls enjoy trimming the tree and roasting, uh, marshmallows over a roaring fire, as Aaron Andrews demonstrates in this vignette:

The floor and rug are beautiful, and the shield above the fireplace is a nice touch.

Monster Claus will eat your cookies drink your milk, and harvest your soul!

Andrew Colunga’s “Monster Claus” is already making the rounds on the Internet. It’s a particularly big hit with law enforcement officers, for some reason…
Personally, I like the milk and cookies.
Edit: The e-mail I got had a catchy title, with no link to the Gizmodo post it was taken from. Apologies to our good friend Jesus [...]

It’s still not too late to give LEGO for Christmas or Hanukkah!

If you’re like me, you’re probably panicking a little bit about what to get your loved ones for the holidays. Hanukkah began last night at sundown, and Christmas is only three days away! Like many retailers, the LEGO Shop now says that they can’t guarantee shipment by Christmas. What to do?
Why not give a LEGO [...]

MisaQa kicks off her 2008 Advent Calendar

Those of you lucky enough to snag a 7979 Castle Advent Calendar have probably just started opening those little doors to discover your Christmas goodies. (You can also follow along on ReasonablyClever.com.)
One of my favorite holiday LEGO traditions, though, is the series of small creations posted each day in December (until Christmas Day) by Japanese [...]
