Checkmate

I play a lot of board games, and while chess isn’t at the top of my rotation, I still appreciate a nice set. This little set by akunthita looks like the perfect thing to bring on a flight or road trip to a Lego convention. I think its the presence of drawers to store the Continue reading →

Rufescent Basilisk

Zach Clapsadle just posted this crazy looking ship. While I can’t approve of the painted canopy pieces, I’m letting it slide because of the shape of the ship. It’s just so interesting! The shape is unconventional, and looks swooshable and fun. I’m always a fan of intakes on ships, and this thing doesn’t disappoint in Continue reading →

Blood in the Snow

Carter Baldwin posted a creation a few days ago that’s feeling pretty relevant to me right now. Here in DC, we’re expecting a snowfall of up to two feet. While stuck inside, I’ve been splitting my time between building, and looking for things to blog here. Carter’s creation hit just the right cord for me. Continue reading →

The brick-built world of Pandora

While I enjoyed the discussion about Avatar on the post featuring Harvey Cu’s Bionicle Thanator beast, I can’t say that it really convinced me to go see the movie. Nevertheless, we plunked down $15.50 each yesterday to go see the move in IMAX 3D, and I’ll grudgingly admit that it was well worth it — Continue reading →

They’re in for a helluva night

A heartwarming Coney Island in the bad old days diorama put together by Jonathan Gilbert (Shmails), to show off some of his new custom minifigs inspired by the movie The Warriors.

…and ’tis Thor who shall see to the task!

Classic-Castle member and customizer babyjawa posted a fantastic creation for the Custom Castle Figure portion of CCCVII: Thor! BJ has a great eye for his custom figures, and Thor is no exception.

BrickArms adds a bit of transparency (and some shine)

BrickArms just posted new transparent weapons packs on their site. The packs are available in red, blue, green and clear. You get 34 for $25. I saw the transparent weapons flying of their table at BrickCon, so I would expect these to go fairly quickly. According to BrickArms spokesman, the ever enigmatic badger, these are Continue reading →

Nausicaä soars on the wings of her Mehve glider, safe above the Sea of Corruption

Jon Hall brings us more Miyazaki goodness with Mehve, Nausicaä’s glider from Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind. What really struck me about this creation, though, is the custom minifig that Jon made. The breathing mask is made from a minifig bandanna, while Nausicaä’s hood is made from a farmer’s cowl.
