Quadrilateral character

Making mecha with oodles of character is definitely one of RongYiren’s strong points. His Couple of Squares are no exception but take a slightly more convential robot shape to his typical work. The posing, little details and excellent colour use really make these polygons shine.

If I were a legovore . . .

. . . I would so eat this. This entry by Sven Junga for the Mocathalon contest is fantastic in and of itself, but the brick built scalloped edge plate, garnish and crustacean flesh extractor all enhance the awesomeness.

Psycho Clickipiller

This psychedelic Clickipiller train by Megan Rothrock (megzter1) is both a cute creative concept, and a bit disturbing. I especially like the googly eyes and odd angle of the mouth. I think I would generally be more into trains if they were covered in Clikits.

Oh, how the mighty have fallen.

This time last year we were collectively preparing to worship LEGO Hawking, courtesy of Iain Heath. Now, the venerable Mr. Hawking is nothing but a prisoner of those damn dirty apes. I don’t trust Iain with my heroes of character anymore. What’s next, Iain? Will you turn Quorra into a Justin Bieber fan? Will you, Continue reading →

Chrome cyborg beast

Rarely do we see creations featuring abundant chrome or metallic colored pieces due to the rarity of those parts. This one by Brad Edmondson depicts a cyborg warrior and her beast causing mayhem at a hangar. You can see an dramatized slideshow of the photos on Youtube.

A tale of two creatures

Here’s a double feature of two creatures by Sean and Steph Mayo (Siercon and Coral). The first is called a serpent fly, which features great use of parts from the 1999 Insectoid theme. The second is a crystal dragon who not only looks angry but also deadly enough to inflict serious damage with those spikes Continue reading →

The Stuff of Nightmares

Ezra B. has shared this nightmare, and now I pass it along. Sleep well tonight…

NBT Merc Squad

Creature creator Tim Goddard (roguebantha_1138) demonstrates that Blacktron are non-discriminatory employers. Which is nice to know.

One does seem to be missing.

Those three blind mice. See how they run? According to Barney Main (SlyOwl), one wasn’t quite quick enough. There is a ton of great stuff hidden in plain sight in this photo. The whole presentation of it is just fabulous.

Schfio’s adorable baby LEGO bunnies celebrate Chinese New Year

Hong Kong LEGO fan Schfio recently posted a pair of rabbits that are so cute I’m not sure what could be cuter. Although we welcomed the Year of the Rabbit with our Japanese readers back in January, most of the rest of the world celebrates the Lunar New Year alongside our readers in China. To Continue reading →

Heaps of good LEGO stuff

Has it been international LEGO building weekend or something? I’ve got a whole stack of new and great models popping up in my flickr stream today and I’m not really sure why. So you get a roundup post of Aurore&Aube, Soren Roberts, Anthony Sava, Pete Reid and zachmoe.

If this is Wrong…

Then I don’t want to be right. I’d much rather be building mecha like this one by Rong Yiren. I just finished a mecha of my own, and it doesn’t appeal to me nearly as much as this does. The killer detail? The removable helmet!

We shall not relinquish the historic eggs!

If you’ve played Angry Birds as much as I have, you’ll love these renditions by Tsang Yiu Keung. The only thing missing is the Mighty Eagle, but I don’t want to pay an extra 99 cents anyways. Spotted via Joe Meno’s facebook.

I want to go to Sesame Street

At least this cute little one by Matt Armstrong (monsterbrick). My favorites for sure are Oscar the Grouch and Elmo’s little clam head, but Cookie Monster comes in a close. Why in the world am I not camped outside Matt’s house waiting for the next great creation?

I may or may not have mentioned that I’m a fan of How to Train Your Dragon

Or, to expand a bit, Dreamwork’s How To Train Your Dragon. Which is, of course, based on a book. Aren’t most things? Anyway, The Boneknapper. Taylor Bagg‘s rendition looks frightening, detailed, and quite lovely.
