Bricks of War brings Gears of War 3 to life in epic LEGO animation

When I haven’t been working, sleeping, building, or blogging, most of my waking hours over the past month have been spent playing Gears of War 3. My favorite things often inspire LEGO creations, a tendency I seem to share with LEGO stop-motion animator Kooberz Studios (aka Alex Kobbs), whose “Bricks of War” is going viral Continue reading →

Time-lapse video: Building 10220 Volkswagen T1 Camper Van

I spent a good chunk of Saturday and Sunday at BrickCon building 10220 Volkswagen T1 Camper Van, assisted toward the end by an able young spacer (I build slowly — really slowly — savoring the build, or something). Marshall Matlock has managed to squeeze the build into a minute and a half.

CGI Train

Ben Beneke is one of the greats of LEGO train building, with even his old steamers still standing out as some of the best. I’d been wondering what had happened to Ben recently (he usually posts at least one new train a year) but apparently he’s been spending time making excellent animations using LDraw and Continue reading →

Country-style buildin’

David Pagano (Paganomation) posted an stop-motion Lego music video about country-style building. This will surely get you out of a building block and inspire you to do some building on top of your building!

Breaking and entering with LEGO

I have an odd interest in the intersection of crime and LEGO, so I’m thrilled by this clip from the 1979 Danish film The Olsen Gang Never Surrenders (Olsen-banden overgiver sig aldrig) featuring a LEGO assisted commercial burglary. Thanks for the tip, Joel!

Printed Circuit video clip made entirely from LEGO

Stop-motion filmmaker and AFOL Chris Salt (0ldScratch) has created an entirely brick-animated video clip for one of the latest tracks by Printed Circuit. This is some of the smoothest brick animation I’ve seen and the use of the M-Tron torsos is brilliant. Suggested by Pete Reid and my apologies to Pete, Chris and our readers Continue reading →

See? Timeless and universal.

There’s something just…happy about this advertisement. Made by Temujin Doran, the posting on Vimeo states it “uses pieces from the stash my brother and I used to play with when we were younger, so perhaps it looks a bit dated compared with modern day Lego. Dated, but still great.” Build Anything from Studiocanoe on Vimeo. Continue reading →

And you thought actors could be moody.

We’ve all heard it, right? Actors declining roles for “creative differences”…right. Creative differences. On the actor’s part? After this fantastic brickfilm from mobiledeli, I’m personally more inclined to say it was the director with the issues. This one certainly has them. You can find more fantastic brickfilms at Bricks in Motion!

Micro StarCraft multiplayer map celebrates release of StarCraft II

This stop-motion video by Alex Kobbs captures so many classic moments from StarCraft that I don’t know which is my favorite. My copy of Starcraft II: Wings of Liberty is in the mail, and Alex’s video just heightens the anticipation.

Metamorphosis, a stop motion animation

David Pickett (fallentomato) presents his best brickfilms animation showing Lego bricks morphing into different objects. Each change from one object to another consists of many brick-built transition states that are shown for only a fraction of a second, and the results are well worth it. Check out more descriptions and behind-the-scenes info about the video Continue reading →

Experimenting with live action Lego films

We’ve all seen some pretty good stop-motion animations with Lego, but the method is not without its limitations. Tyler Clites and Jordan Schwartz recently experimented with making short clips of live action Lego films featuring their Oasis Mech and Anubis Statues respectively. You can read more about each creator’s thoughts by following the links below Continue reading →

The Nightly News at Nine – a brickfilm by David Pickett

We don’t feature enough videos from the talented community of brickfilmers, so I was happy to be introduced to a brickfilm project by David Pickett (fallentomato) at Brickworld called The Nightly News at Nine (NNN). NNN captures “the zany adventures of a TV News team who live in a fantastical world made of plastic bricks.” Continue reading →

Robert Green’s fumbling failure immortalized in LEGO

I’ve been catching a few minutes of the World Cup every morning before heading into work, but watched the complete US-England game over the weekend. Naturally, there’s a LEGO version. This video by Fabian Moritz has gone viral at this point, but for those of you whose friends and family haven’t forwarded this to you Continue reading →

The Fastest and Funniest LEGO Star Wars story ever told

dzine123 brings us the full story of the Star Wars Trilogy condensed into ~2 minutes as told by a kid with one heck of a LEGO collection :) EDIT: Regardless of the voice talent, this was actually created by LEGO, not “a kid with one heck of a LEGO collection.”

Power Miners are male chauvinist pigs

In this video by Chris Salt, the Power Miners do not shine in their attitudes towards the women in their midst. However, the animation is smooth, the jerk gets what’s coming to him, and there are singing rock monsters. What more could you ask for?
