Super Robot Mazinger Z!
Mark Sandlin (Grand Admiral) is bringing this towering model of the robot Mazinger Z to the Big in Japan display at Brickcon 2010. Modeled after the gigantic Teknomeka frame, the mecha is sure to stand out. Déjà vu anyone?

Lovers of Masamune Shirow don’t need to feel left out of the Cubedude phenomenan as Paul Meissner (legosamurai) has rendered the leading duo from Appleseed in blocky glory.
Iain Heath knows what I like. Hayao Miyazaki is my favorite director, and Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind is easily my favorite animated movie — more so because I love the manga version that Miyazaki continued writing and drawing for ten years after the movie was released. Naturally, I prefer it in the Continue reading →
Anyone else a fan of Avatar? Not that new-fangled 3-D extravaganza by Mr. Cameron — but the kids’ show that ran for three glorious seasons on Nickelodeon. There were two LEGO sets inspired by the show. It’s going to be released as a live-action film this summer. Iain Heath was commissioned by Bryan Konietzko, one Continue reading →
I occasionally love a good comic, especially if it involves someone I know. Do you think you know Mark Kelso beyond his brick monstrosities? Check out this comic by Jeff F. on MOCpages and you might learn more about the legend, more than you need to that is. If you care about the building techniques Continue reading →
It’s very rare that we’ll blog two separate creations by a builder in one day, but both these models by the talented Alex Schranz (Orion Pax) deserve closer attention. Alex’s Optimus Prime transforms completely from semi truck to robot: The trailer includes a remote-controlled Roller, and Optimus Prime’s chest contains the Autobot Matrix of Leadership. I’m loving this little tachikoma by Lord Dane. It’s another creative new use for the figure bases from the new Toy Story army men set. Even if it’s not quite as brilliant as the motorcycle we featured recently, it still looks good, and makes use of an otherwise useless part. Better still, this tachikoma is Continue reading →
Yosemite Sam rocks. Do I really need to say anymore? Annie Diment hit one out of the park with this build. Sweet, I say, sweet.
I was a major GI Joe fan, back in the day, and I have to admit that the Dreadnoks were some of my favorite characters. These three guys, Buzzer, Ripper, and Torch, were the original three. I think that’s why Angus MacLane’s CubeDude renditions warm the cockles of my heart.
T.Oechsner still has the Neo Classic Space bug, and now he’s spread the theme to a motorcycle. He’s captured the look perfectly. He’s used old school bubble shaped tires, managed to create a frame over fender look. He’s also managed to get the right chunky and functional look common to that theme. Also, the red Continue reading →
Over on Flickr, Car_MP has just posted a great rendition of one of the more adorable pieces of Japanese culture. Although I’m more partial her boyfriend Dear Daniel, for obvious reasons, it’s hard not to be a fan of this creation. This would also be great in the Big In Japan display that The Brothers Continue reading →
In our interview with Angus MacLane back in 2008, we asked him why none of the toys in the previous two installments of the Toy Story series were LEGO. Read the interview to find out, but that gap has been corrected in Toy Story 3. They’re a bit hard to spot in this screen cap Continue reading →
I’m not doing this on purpose, I promise. Right after I’d blogged Howl’s Moving Castle and Nausicaä, I saw this flaptter by MooseBot over on the left side of the page. I blame technology. Hurray for Miyazaki!
Jon Hall brings us more Miyazaki goodness with Mehve, Nausicaä’s glider from Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind. What really struck me about this creation, though, is the custom minifig that Jon made. The breathing mask is made from a minifig bandanna, while Nausicaä’s hood is made from a farmer’s cowl.
There’s just something about the worlds of Hayao Miyazaki that inspire LEGO builders to new heights. This Howl’s Moving Castle by O-SAWA may be my favorite yet. From battleship turrets and chicken feet to houses and a big orange tongue, O-SAWA’s castle has it all. Via twee affect.
