I almost passed up Justin Vaughn’s little Mars colony until I saw it on MicroBricks. Why? The lighting just didn’t seem right.
In reality, the lighting is perfect. Light on Mars is a lot dimmer than on Earth, with an orange hue from the dust-laden skies. The biodome is built from two halves of Buzz Lightyear’s [...]
Tim Goddard (roguebantha_1138) brings us what is likely the first microscale creation inspired by the new LEGO Atlantis theme.
Note how Tim integrated the new Atlantis visor and helmet into the vehicle.
This miniature version of the Colosseum by rack911 has all the grandeur of the real landmark. The model has a detailed interior depicting the modern day ruins. Even more spectacular are the lights that create an eerie glow. You can see all the pictures on Brickshelf.
qworg presents “Pegasus’ Fortress,” a small castle on a very tall spire of rock.
Notice the town, docks, and even clouds far below the castle. The combination of minifig scale and microscale create a forced-perspective effect that takes this from cool to awesome.
One of my favorite holiday traditions in the LEGO fan community is MisaQa’s annual Advent Calendar, taking us day by day from December 1st through Christmas Eve. This year, she’s presenting a new microscale building each day.
Keep an eye on the Flickr photoset or MisaQa’s website, STUD & TUBE.
On November 21, 1916, HMHS Britannic struck a German mine and sank, following the fate of her sister ship Titanic. Rob H. (rh1985moc) has honored the memory of this ill-fated World War I hospital ship with a microscale rendition in LEGO.
Of course, Britannic and Titanic weren’t the only ships commissioned by the White Star Line [...]
A new builder going by SPACE, TIME, & REALITY has posted a microscale version of the Nakagin Capsule Tower in Tokyo.
The technique used for the round capsule windows is excellent, while the mix of light and dark windows adds interest.
Via twee affect.
It seems both inevitable and appropriate that humankind will name a spacegoing vehicle after astronomer and author Carl Sagan. We’ve also come to expect excellence from the collaborations between Ed Diment and Ralph Savelsberg.
The Carl Sagan certainly doesn’t disappoint.
Describing it as a “near-future deep space exploration ship” inspired by Ralph’s microscale John Archibald Wheeler, the [...]
Sorry for not coming up with a better title, but if you look at Chris Edward’s microscale Castle on the Lake, you’ll either be consciously or unconsciously affected by all the shades of green from the sand green roofs to the green cliff vegetation and finally… the tranquil yet ominous green water. This subtlety combined [...]
Imagine Rigney is the only builder I know to have built Howl’s Moving Castle beyond a microscale version. For a teenage builder, this is quite an achievement as he has captured the haphazard looks of the castle by using angled plates and a mash up of rusty colors. See more including interior and construction shots [...]
Like years past, BrickCon 2009 was both exhausting and exhilarating. Bear with us as we travel home, sort through photos, and put our thoughts in writing. I’ll update this post over the next couple of days, along with a full write-up of Zombie Apocafest 2009.
In the meantime, please enjoy the photos we’ve all been uploading. [...]
With much relief, I’m pleased to announce that 10199 Winter Toy Shop is now available from the LEGO Shop online.
For $60, you get 7 minifigs and 815 pieces. The set also has some great microscale detailing inside the shop.
No luck yet on 6299 LEGO Pirates Advent Calendar, but rest assured we’ll be talking to the [...]
I strongly suspect most of you have already seen this, but this LEGO Star Wars chess set by Brandon Griffith (icgetaway) is well worth another look.
In addition to a great board and the minifig stands one might expect from a LEGO chess set, Brandon built a bunch of microscale Star Wars vehicles and even a [...]
Erik Smit has built two great Micropolis modules and combined them to show just how much detail you can pack into a very small space.
(Incidentally, BrickCon will have a collaborative MicroCity layout, so it’s not too late to build something and bring it!)
This microscale castle scene by Marcos Bessa looks pretty nifty, especially the dock and the ship. Looking at this makes me want to see a full-blown medieval landscape that rivals the size of the famous Shannonia microcity.
This little craft, by Fredoichi, caught me off guard. I didn’t realize it was microscale until I’d clicked on it. Nice job, very nice job.
We’ve gotten enough suggestions for things we’ve already blogged (check out Page 2, people!) that I thought we should do a quick roundup of this week’s news items.
10197 out. 10197 Fire Brigade is now available and has been inspiring LEGO creations throughout the week. Andrey Kudinov built a 1930s-era Gaz-AA fire truck and Alex [...]
It’s been only less than two weeks since the release of 10197 Fire Brigade, but Alex Eylar (Profound Whatever) has already microscaled it. I won’t ask how many of his Flickr contacts thought it was the actual set from the thumbnail pictures.
