LEGO unveils new Star Wars UCS Snowspeeder with over 1,700 pieces [News]

Today LEGO announced the newest addition to the Ultimate Collector Series, 75144 Snowspeeder. Like traditional UCS sets, this snowspeeder is a large model loaded with details, and can be displayed with a stand and info card. The Snowspeeder has 1,703 pieces and includes 2 minifigures. The set will cost $199.99 USD and will be available beginning on Star Wars day, aka May the 4th, in LEGO stores and from the LEGO Shop Online.

This will be the second Snowspeeder in the UCS line, following 10129 Rebel Snowspeeder, which was released nearly 14 years ago in 2003. The original Snowspeeder currently sells for around $2,000 for an unopened copy, or around $900 for a used copy, so the new set will provide a much more economical means of populating your display shelves with a cool Snowspeeder model (and naturally bring the prices down on the old one, also). The new model is roughly the same scale as the older version, but adds about 250 pieces over the original’s 1,455. The windscreen in the older version is made of a pair of classic hinged canopies set side by side with a single large sticker applied over both. The new 75144 Snowspeeder uses a brand-new canopy element and uses angled plates for the front instead of stacked slope bricks.

Hmmm. Don’t know how to feel about this. I do like it just seems like Lego is regurgitating old sets though. Gets a bit stale. I don’t have the original so I’m interested.

There’s only so many movie vehicles iconic enough to sell to a large segment of the population. Considering it’s been 14 years since the first UCS snowspeeder and we’re getting a new canopy piece, I think it can slide.

Man, this is my favorite ship from the movies (the AT-ST is my favorite “land” vehicle) so I am tempted. Love the details but don’t know if the wife will let me find space to display it hehe

I’m new to collecting so forgive me for this but I would love it if they had released 75179 millennium falcon 1st edition revamp with over 5000 pieces.

This is not “sized” for the minifigures, correct? They look like ornaments on the stand – the UCS nature of the set I thought means they aren’t meant to fit minifigs inside the cockpit. Can anyone confirm?

@gdcook1969 No, it’s about 3 times too big to be minifig-scale. A 5.3 m model rendered at 39 cm would be roughly 1:13.5. Minifig scale varies, but is generally 1:45 up to about 1:35.

Haha I don’t think a new millennium falcon with over 5000 pieces will be out anytime soon. The force awakens one will be available for a good while. Would be nice though

I agree with you, JP – seems like Lego is losing gas when it comes to ideas for UCS versions of the classics – a 2nd Death Star 1, the sloppy mess called Assault on Hoth, and now UCS Snowspeeder 2?? Why don’t we get a UCS A-Wing? The A-Wing received a lot more air time than the B-Wing. To this set’s credit, it does look awesome. I am a big Snowspeeder fan. I just wish Lego would be more creative when there is more to make. I know I will be looking to grab the improved version of Zev after the set floods enough of the aftermarket to drive the price down, though.
