Anyone else think the proportions on Mickey et al. feel a little off? They look like the theme park mascot versions of the actual characters.

Proudlove: Absolutely, although to be fair, the minifig design itself is inherently way out of proportion with real bodies (cartoon or otherwise). I think the issue here is that they chose to make the heads larger to accommodate more detail, which throws off the minifig’s internal proportionality. It works on some of the figs, like Stitch and the Cheshire Cat, but not so much on Mickey and Donald.

I LOVE Ursula and Maleficent, but this is kind of a weak series.

Four “core” Disney mascots that are pretty plain, and in fact don’t even have accessories. Two of the exact same genie lamp?? That’s not great accessory work, LEGO! Two Toy Story minifigs, both of which were already previously available (Albeit slightly differently, in Buzz’s case, since he’s been outfitted with a true minifig head. Not sure if the alien is any different at all). Genie’s bald cap looks quite odd — too tall, maybe, or they should’ve put his eyes higher up (Similarly, maybe Mr. Incredible’s belt should be on the torso piece, so his proportions look better)? Oh well. The apparent confusion on their part between classic LEGO minifig-shaped heads and Simpsons-style custom-shaped heads is also off-putting. Would Mickey have really looked so bad with a classic head and a “mouse ears” headpiece? And then they took Buzz (Who, in his previous release, had a custom-shaped head already) and gave him the classic treatment. They’re all over the place!

The rest are at least alright, and a few are pretty good (Alice, Aladdin, and Peter). The new rigid skirt piece is pretty interesting, and — as previously mentioned — Maleficent and Ursula are COMPLETELY fabulous. There are definitely Disney characters that I want to see as minifigs, but I think that half of these just aren’t up to snuff.
