Guns along the Western Front fell silent on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month in 1918. Using LEGO as a medium to acknowledge Veterans Day, Armistice Day or Remembrance Day wherever you are, is just our community’s way of remembering all of those who sacrificed for their country.

Nice creations, here is another tip ; a massive 54 000 brick WW I memorial called the Menenpoort ( +/- one brick for each name on the memorial ). I know it does not appeal to BB since it ‘s not on Flickr, but nonetheless :-) http://www.een.be/programmas/iedereen-beroemd/lego-menenpoort
It’s not a question of “not appealing” — it’s a matter of not being able to find things buried on Belgian websites. ;-) Thanks for the link!
Hi brickprojects, thank you for sharing the link. I’ve just watched the video and, while I could not understand a word, it made no difference as the build is certainly impressive. I liked the display location in the grounds of the actual Memorial itself as the direct comparison shots where a nice touch. The sentiments are not lost despite the language barrier for me. Thanks!
The embedded link is of a national tv show highlighting heroes-for-a-day; here’s a concise transcript :
Jan Vanden Berghe (can’t find much on the internet), 50 years old is both interior architect and AFOL.
He used blueprints to recalculate everything to LEGO proportions, and worked 5 months on the project.
This culminated in displaying the replica right in front of the original. Ornaments : TECHNIC gears, Ninjago Sensei Wu hats, Lego Games Microfigs ( facing towards the building, so the print is not visible )
Visitor : “Piece count?” – Jan : “How much names on the Memorial ? There’s your answer.” The Last Post still moves him no matter how often he hears it.
Perfect thanks :-) I saw the blueprints and it’s interesting to know he is an architect too. It is very precise!
Many Thanks Elspeth for adding my build to this post And to brickprojects for sharing the link
No worries Nick, your build is certainly one of the ones that sticks in my memory when Remembrance Day and Lego combine. :-)
