E.T. Phone Home

I’m guessing you recognize this iconic scene from an essential 80s film, E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial. There are few images that can make you feel nostalgic quite like a bright moon and a boy on his bike. Noah McClung (Glory_Forever) has rendered it beautifully in brick.

Lego Starcraft Mutalisk

Ever since the mutalisk buff, in Starcraft 2 Heart of the Swarm, this Zerg flyer has been massively popular in games. It looks like Mike Nieves (retinence) got the message and made his own to join his Zerg swarm. You can see more photos on Imgur.

The wa F8 Lanius is One Sweet Mecha

Lanius-01

Flickr user legorobo:waka has posted his wa F8 Lanius, a truly sweet mecha that hits all the right notes.  It has classic anime styling, great details, articulation and best of all, houses a minfig pilot. In particular, the details I like best are the feet/ landing gear, the hands and guns, and the classic Japanese style mecha head with the Uruk-Hai sword on the back. The way he was able to tuck the pilot into the chest cavity without it looking too bulky, or sacrificing the styling detail is pretty sweet too.

Bad Fortune

Fancy your fortune told? I do believe Madame Irma can help. This beautiful scene by captainsmog features a cast of characters and the fortune-teller’s tent, complete with beautiful details and surprises.

Announcing the Wrath of the Titans Contest

Are you already getting tired of the MocAthalon? Then I’ve got good news for you. Simon Pickard and James Pegrum, both active members of the Greco-Roman LEGO group, are organising a contest that strikes me as new and original. No, it’s not about wrestling; the aim is to create a LEGO scene that depicts an event involving the titans of ancient Greece.

If this has made you curious, see the contest rules on flickr and let’s get ready to rumble!

Lego Accessories for the Sophisticated Gentleman by Bruce Lowell

“What’s this fine looking man doing on the front page of The Brothers Brick?” you say. “He doesn’t look like Lego!” Well, no, Bruce Lowell isn’t made of Lego, though we do suspect liquified ABS runs in his veins. His accoutrements are, however, made of Lego. Look closely, and you’ll see that the tie, tie clip, boutonniere, cuff links, belt, and even pocket square are all one-hundred percent brick. Bruce has pioneered an excellent way to show off your inner geek and look dashing doing it.

Packmann

No, that’s not a spelling mistake in the title. Cole Blaq‘s Packmann 850 clearly works in a warehouse packing (or unpacking) shelves. This is LEGO mecha design at its cleanest.

Crumbling walls

I do like me a good LEGO tehcnical study once in a while. Ethan (-MrMacy-) brings us a doozy of a pair of crumbling walls that is well worth sharing.

Custom Roundup: BrickArms, BrickForge, BrickWarriors & BrickFortress

Spring is upon us and the makers of custom accessories are coming out with more new items to tempt us!

First up, BrickArms just released 10 new guns that run the gamut from World War II to Sci-Fi. Fans will be excited to see the E-11 and DL-44 come to production. Personally, I’m pretty excited about the Mosin Nagant.

Another shot of the BrickArms Spring 2013 Release

BrickForge has a number of new items. These include gas masks, ballistic masks, face shields, tactical masks, night vision goggles and chin straps.

Brickwarriors made Dark Blue and Lime items available.

Finally, BrickFortress doesn’t have any new items but all of their poseable, stubby legs are on sale for $1.15. They have been on sale for some time now, so this may be the new, standard price. They recently ran a poll, asking which colors people would like, so we may see something new in the future. See our review for an opinion on these items.

Long-legged LEGO Sniper Mecha

Soren Roberts has been without bricks for a while, but it looks like he’s got them in his hot little hands again. Which is great for all lovers of LEGO Mecha. Not only is his Type K a great model, but Soren shows yet again why he’s one of the kings of the genre with his posing.

EDIT:And if I’d being paying attention before I would have included the Type N too.

The Iron Throne Made of Lego

The Iron Throne, that notoriously uncomfortable chair at the heart of the turmoil in Westeros in George R.R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire series, has been wonderfully recreated in Lego by Jacob Nion. And of course, to accompany it is the beloved, if ill-fated, Ned Stark, Hand of the King. Jacob is following the styling of the HBO television series A Game of Thrones in his interpretation of the throne and of Stark, and nicely enough, Ned Stark is easy to recreate in Lego form thanks to actor Sean Bean already having been made in Lego in the character of Boromir.
