I really want to like this set, but I just don’t. The curves are blocky, the little saw and arm attachments look tacked on, no wheels, and it just looks a bit bland overall.

I appreciate that they’re trying to keep more UCS sets coming, and they’re running out of ideas, but this just looks unfinished to me. I would much rather see them tackle some ships they haven’t done yet (like an A-Wing or B-Wing), do something from the prequels, or possibly come out with a new version of the some of the earlier UCS sets like the TIE Interceptor or X-Wing.

This looks great – I like the brick and plate dome particularly, a purpose built piece might have looked *better*, but this keeps the ‘legoish’ feel while still leaving no doubt as to what it is.

A ‘must have’, I think.

I was expecting a sound effect function or something… I mean c’mon, they did this to less relevant sets with “sound bricks” years ago (i.e. Insectoids), why not make a more functional, cheaper R2 this time? This function seems to be completely optional in my opinion, if you just don’t want it to have noise, take the batteries off… different from the Mindstorms Droid Kit, where the power functions were the main point of the set.

To be honest, I don’t like the bricky shape of his head. The body is very well designed, with slope bricks, circuit details and such, but why not put some effort on the head using curved bricks? Or even a new dome piece, similar to that one from Mindstorms SW droid kit? Somehow, that head seems out of place…

Anyway, this thing is definitely a must-have on my shelf!
