Black Knights’ Castle: Simple Elegance

The Black Knights’ Castle may not be the biggest, but it is gorgeous. Using relatively subtle ornamentation, Franko Komljenovic has crafted a quite suitable stronghold for this classic faction. The black walls with grey engaged columns lend the castle depth, and combined with the narrow crenelations, help belie the size of the fortress.

Deck the hall with boughs of LEGO

The weather outside might be frightful, but we’ve got plenty to keep us inside and warm. And that includes building ornaments for our trees, if that’s the holiday you choose to celebrate.

Chris McVeigh has posted his series of five ornaments, each designed to bring a bit of life and character to your decorations this holiday season! Each has instructions, so happy building!

Modernist signal box

Signal boxes are one of the most common trackside accessories built by LEGO fans. But I think this beauty by lafabrick is the first time I’ve seen a modernist[1] version done in LEGO. I like it. There’s a lot of clever use of half-stud offset on this one.

[1] I think actually brutalist, perhaps our architecturally inclined readers can inform me.

Tardisblue’s Edgy Solar Strafer

Nick Trotta’s (aka Tardisblue) newest ship combines a superb color-scheme with incredible angles and a Vic Viper flourish to help finish out Novvember. The integration of the stripes into the wings and tail is wonderfully done, and the sawtooth edges on the forward struts give this ship a particularly aggressive look. Be sure to check out some of his other sweet ships, too.

What danger lurks indeed

And again with the fantastic entries for the Colossal Castle Contest, courtesy of Classic-Castle. This time, we’ve got a fabulous bit of landscaping by KumpelKante to accompany the intrepid explorers, who are about to run into some trouble.

He lives in an oak-wood and has a great wooden house...

…and was known as Beorn to Gandalf, Bilbo, and their many dwarven companions in The Hobbit; and this charming scene by Blake Baer (Blake’s Baericks) captures his home quite nicely. There are many fantastic details, but Blake has particularly done an excellent job at portraying the dense grass, weeds, and flowers surrounding the paths.

Expanding Horizons

This lovely display by Justin Pyne seems to be attempting to illustrate the concept of exploration, rather than just an exploration mecha. The choice of perspective, putting the fascinating alien (underwater perhaps?) flowers in the foreground, with the character in the background really adds depth to the photo. Speaking of those flowers, they’re quite interesting as well, the use of large scale technic pieces is surprisingly effective.

“Fried Chicken!” – A tribute to Freddie Mercury

Iain Heath (Ochre Jelly) brings us a lovely tribute to Queen on the 20th anniversary of Freddie Mercury’s death. The poise and action in this model are incredible.

Lightning McFalcon

Raphael Heusser‘s mashup of Cars and Star Wars yields hilarious results. Never would I have imagined a cross between Lightning McQueen and the Millennium Falcon prior to seeing this creation.

Got Milk?

This creation is just fabulous. Built by Gilcelio Ghagas (Legogil), this iconic milk delivery truck embodies a simpler time when milk actually WAS delivered by these “milk floats”. The details are amazing. I see something new every time I look at it.

The description on the picture gives a ton of great information, so I encourage you to click through and see!
