Collectible Minifigures Series 5 – first high-res photos

Though low-res and group shots of Series 5 Collectible Minifigs have been circulating for a little while, I think this is the first set of “solo” shots at a high enough resolution to make out details and therefore be worth discussion.

Series 5 single shots

We don’t know what the official names are yet, of course, but here’s a list of the sixteen minifigs that the series contains:

  • Gladiator (Mirmillo, specifically)
  • Graduate (no Mrs. Robinson
  • Snowboarder
  • Gangster
  • Cave Woman (hair not long enough to be dragged by — how progressive!)
  • Lizard Man (continuing furry fandom in LEGO form)
  • Zookeeper (with monkey)
  • Inuit/Eskimo/Yupik/Inupiat Fisherman (let’s see how LEGO untangles that political minefield with the official name…)
  • Boxer (a poor boy, his story seldom told)
  • Clown
  • Redneck Canadian Lumberjack (proposed name updated)
  • Dwarf
  • 80’s Aerobics Girl
  • Cleopatra (with asp)
  • Coldstream Guard (ahhh, just missed the royal wedding)
  • Sherlock Holmes

I’m highly offended that you associate the noble Canadian Lumberjack with inbred low class Americans, eh.

  2. Catsy

Hmm. There’s a few good ones in this series, but for the love of… just how many ‘boarders and dwarves do we need?

On the other hand, I predict the Gladiator to be the hot character this time around that everyone wants eleventy bajillion of. The Cleopatra fig is nice too.

Wish they’d stuck with a classic poseable monkey instead of that extremely limited single-part prop. A new source for monkey parts would’ve been sweet.

hello, i love minifigures, but its serie 5 and there is still no black people, dont anybody think this is weird ?

^ So, let me get this straight. You’re complaining about the fact that one of the minifigs has a fishing pole as its accessory, without actually considering that the minifigs themselves (the part most of us care about) are each completely different? Sure, makes sense to me.

“Black people” will never be seen in the Collectible Minifig series, just as you won’t find any specific race or ethnicity (outside of possible accessories that allude to the idea of race or ethnicity).

Normal yellow minifigs are race/ethnically neutral. LEGO has said that race specific minifigs will ONLY be found in instances where the figure is to represent an actual person or character.

Being from Eastern Oregonian I take offense to the notion that that clean, hard-working lumberjack has been associated and misnomered as a redneck. If he was a redneck he’d have a beer can, the sleeves torn off his shirt and a dirty trucker hat with the bill folded nearly in half.

    ; )

As a Brit, the Guard known as a Coldstream Guard. They also serve tours away fighting. The lizard looks like a kaiju, not a furry (also he has no fur…) I agree that the axeman is a lumberjack. This series looks fab, I need to get multiples of each one!

I was going to complain about this all seeming like familiar ground, but then I looked at the minifigs again and feel that there is a lot of unique stuff happening here.
Still no French maid though >.>

Now they just need to make a Mountie and someone will make a brickfilm of “I’m a Lumberjack and I’m OK.” And of course he’s Canadian – he’s got our national animal on his hat. Sorry to disagree with you on one thing though, Dano; there are plenty of Canadians who proudly call themselves rednecks.

I read in a BrickJournal article that one of the upcoming minifigs is based off a Canadian friend of Matt Ashton. The lumberjack could possibly be it. There were also mentionings of other easter eggs in the CM series.

Nothing wrong with calling that fig. an Eskimo Fisherman.
I loved Eskimo Pies when I was a kid by the way. If it was called Inuit Pie, I don’t think I would’ve bought it…;)

The Inuit/Eskimo/Yupik/Inupiat Fisherman will probably be called the all usefull “tribal” fisherman…..

  13. Catsy

Yeah, I was just gonna say “Arctic Fisherman” or something. Sidestep the ethnic landmines altogether.

I would like to see a better picture of what the Gangster is carrying in his right hand. It looks sort of like a modern boom box from this angle, but I’m sure it’s probably something like a violin case (which, in and of itself, is kind of cool).

I think that gladius that the Gladiator is carrying is new, isn’t it?

As with similar figs in previous series, the Clown and Lizard Man provoke a strong DO NOT WANT reaction from me, but thankfully the parts seem like they’ll be easy to identify and avoid.

  14. Catsy

Come to think of it, if that’s a violin case, I am *so* modding that to hold a tommy gun…

I am astounded at the restraint on display. No one has mentioned the snowboarder! I applaud you all. You are good people.

I am not a good person, so I think it’s ridiculous that there’s another snowboarder. No more snowboarders, please. Just stop! Can’t you stop? It is the one figure in this collection that I don’t want to get, which means I’m guaranteed to get four of them when I buy it from LEGO.com.

This is perhaps my second-most favorite collection to-date, however. Excellent work, LEGO!

  16. Caylin

    Dude. No dissin’ the snowboarder!

I’m pretty satisfied with another so long as there are more boarders than skiers. ;-)

Overall I’m pretty happy with this lot. I see a lot of useful pieces.

Well, well. This is the first of the series where I say: I want them… ALL!!

Given the controversy over the identity of the guy with the axe, I’ve consolidated everybody’s suggestions into “Redneck Canadian Lumberjack”. Better? :-P

@ Cuiz : Yeah weird but also still no white or red people. Lego just loves asians ;)
