Josh: Well this is the internet after all, tone rarely comes across as intended :P As far as Caylin’s original intent in the wording of it, I’m sure she meant no harm at all, and I didn’t intend to imply I thought she did. I just meant if Chuck was saying “Hey I came up with it first!”, I could see why, given the wording.

And Jasper absolutely could have come up with the technique on his own, I’ve seen (and experienced) many times where someone discovers a technique only to find out it has been discovered many times before. That’s why I too am not a fan of people laying claim to ownership, otherwise we’re all copying SOMEONE, and our list of dedications with each MOC posted would become unwieldy at best.

Please don’t get me wrong, I’m a big fan of Jasper’s (and Moko’s) work, and I do know how Chuck can be, it just seemed it might be jumping the gun a bit in this case (to use your wording). So…no hard feelings?

This technique (whoever first thought of it) makes very good pillars. Its been used for gatling guns many times over, but this was the first time I’d seen it used for pillars. Apparently, Chuck built a concept piece of it years ago, of which I was ignorant. I see no good reason for posting a link to it. This rubs a sore spot of mine. However, Chuck may have totally not meant anything by posting that. I am completely open to that.

As far as saying that this technique belongs to Mr. Jasper, I’m sure Caylin used the phrase “his technique” in the sense that it was the technique that he used. That or she thought that he did invent it, which he may have done independently of Chuck. I don’t know. Caylin and I have had this conversation in that past and I know that she feels somewhat the same way I do, regarding “ownership” of techniques that is.

I don’t think Moko would get this upset at it either, as we’ve all used techniques that others have discovered first, heck I don’t see any ownership claims in his brickshelf at all. Instead of worrying about all of that why don’t we just admire the vig for just being a nice vig, rather than worrying about laying claims to “technique” ownership. We’re all adults here.

@Chuck – Not sure what point you are trying to make here. Are you trying to claim “ownership” of this technique?
