I’ll defend him. He was the greatest artist of the century, hands down. But I also think he was a decent human being who was mistreated to the breaking point. How can one possibly survive being in the spotlight all your life?

Say what you want about the King, I always have, and always will be a staunch fan.
R.I.P. Michael. You will be sorely missed.

I loved and love his music. Too bad nobody could help him.
And too bad he was put on the big stage too soon. Little children should be children first and adults later in life. Never understood this child star thing anyway. (Like I dont understand little children on universities.)
As far as the abuse cases: he is innocent untill proven guilty. He was never proven guilty so he is innocent. period.

^ *Pumps fist* YES! Someone who is not a MJ fan! He may have been THE best in the music biz in his early years, but as time went on, he became a slimeball of the highest order. The things he did were absolutly dispicable(long words….), and it seems he got what was coming to him. Though it is sad to see that happen to a dude who could’ve been a pretty decent guy, if not for his upbringing.

First off, nice MOC, and fitting tribute. I can remember when Michael Jackson was the coolest man on the planet.

I say this is a great example of “trust the art, not the artist.” The true tragedy here is not his death so much as the trajectory his life took in the last 20 years. We lost the MJ many of us loved a long time ago. MJ struggled with the sorts of demons and baggage that almost everyone else will never understand; but the fact remains that he was a public figure in many ways, not just as a brilliant artist. Charismatic and amazingly talented child musician, eccentric megastar extraordinaire, and, finally of course, tortured and severely disfunctional freak – who never quite seemed to understand the rules of society.

It is naive and narrowminded to expect him to be remembered as only one or two of these things, his legacy deserves to encompass the best and the worst he had to offer. I think the range of public reactions speaks volumes about the different (and certainly not mutually exclusive) things he represented to the world. It’s like he out-Elvised Elvis.

His story reminds us of the potential price of fame and excellence, and of the dreadul consequences that can come from being isolated from the world around you at any age – no matter how brilliant or rich you are.

Well I am defending him. He was a great musician, probably the best in my lifetime, his inspirational music really motiviated me when I was young and helped me through some pretty rough patches. Though admittedly he was very naive and some of the things he did where relatively controversial (those child abuse claims were the result of trashy tabloids and were never proved). Even though parts of the public don’t like him, I’d ask everyone to be more respectful now that he’s passed on.
RIP MJ, you were the greatest.

I’m not defending him, but how much of that questionable life resulted from his own upbringing by an abusive father who also thrust him into the limelight at a very early age before he had finished his own childhood? There’s no way he was ever going to be a normal person after that.

Anyway, great MOC, nicely posed. That is, after all, what we’re discussing here.

This is a fabulous figure. It captures the Michael Jackson we’d all like to remember and gives a great sense of motion at a difficult scale. Unfortunately many of us are much more than not fans. Between the accusations he faced in court, the antics he was filmed doing in public and the things he said in interviews many people wish his end came sooner for his sake as well as the children he affected. In my mind a tribute to the man is as desirable as a tribute to Ted Kazinski Mary Kay Letourneau.
