Most Steampunk fans will probably recognize the first image as a reference to the 1902 Jules Verne-inspired film "A Trip to the Moon" (Le voyage dans la lune) by early French filmmaker George Méliès, considered by some to be the father of special effects. This particular shot is considered to be one of the most iconic in the history of cinema, and its Lego rendition is indeed very faithful to the original.

Oh, that's wonderful!

It's a scene from the 1902 short sci-fi (and high tech!) Georges Melies movie "Le voyage dans la Lune" (A trip to the moon). A classic.

See 4.13 into this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UiDWmXHR3RQ

PS.
The Melies film was an inspiration for Smashing Pumpkings and their steampunky video for Tonight, tonight. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YEvVIgCm1zg
