In news sure to excite our 16 readers in the United Arab Emirates, Merlin Entertainments Group (owners of the LEGOLAND theme parks) has announced that it will be opening LEGOLAND Dubailand in 2011.
Here’s an excerpt from the press release:
LEGOLAND Dubailand is scheduled to open at the end of 2011, and will be a 3 million square-foot theme park project forming part of DUBAILAND(TM), the world’s most ambitious tourism, leisure and entertainment destination. Similar to the existing four LEGOLAND Parks at Billund, Denmark; Germany; Windsor and California … LEGOLAND Dubailand features more than 40 interactive rides, shows and attractions geared towards families with children ages 2 to 12.
Any of you in the UAE or neighboring countries care to share your thoughts?

Oh wow, I never even heard of Dubai and imagine how shocked I am to find it being such a hotspot (not for conflict) in the Middle East.

This surprised me at first, but then I got to thinking about it. Dubai is fast becoming a major hotspot, so it makes sense.

Duwhat?
I feel slightly guilty for not knowing of the place, but slightly better that my fellow Brothers haven’t either.
Anyway, any new LEGOLAND is a good news.

I try to keep up with Dubai, so this doesn’t surprise me. Lego already has a store there, IIRC.

It figures. Half the people in Dubai are foreigners. No way would they put a Lego anything there if it was like the rest of the middle east.
All the female minifigs would have to look like this except the green might be a bit too seductive looking.

Weird. My comment disappeared. :s

Weird. The spam filter was apparently getting aggressive due to the link (which is weird, since you’ve already been approved). Found it, though.

Dubai’s future plan = rich holidaymakers going for luxury and ‘brand’ experiences. Seems like a good spot to me.

Strange that Lego is pushing in a predominately Muslim country (where representation of people is frowned apon) especially after the danish cartoon saga. However Dubai has the best bet if they are going to.
I’ve not been there since 2000, but it is an amazing place.
I think they will need a lot of tan brick to build miniland

If you don’t know of the city of Dubai you live under a rock. It is an amazing place, but frankly if I go there there is a lot more to see than some silly LEGO park. They have indoor skiing (It’s 120 there), they have islands shaped like the world, there have two different groups of islands shaped like palm trees and they have the worlds only 6 or seven star hotel that has a huge sail as a wall, that is also built on a man-made island.

And that hotel has an underwater restuarant, reached by a submarine!
Mind you, as it all built on desert, it takes a hell of a lot of resourses to keep it going

Actually, because Dubai is a coastal city, its not as hard as you may think; It sits right on the Persian Gulf.

The location doesn’t surprise me at all. _Everything_ is being built in Dubai, so why not the world’s greatest building toy?

They also have a restaurant with the entire interior made of ice, dishes, chairs, tables and all.
